Beyond the Bench
Lab Life @ DG Lab
Where science meets curiosity, teamwork fuels discovery, and every day brings something new under the microscope.
A Day in Our Lab
From early morning buffer preparations to late-evening gel documentation, DG Lab buzzes with the energy of young scientists chasing breakthroughs. We believe great science happens when talented people work together in a supportive, fun, and intellectually stimulating environment.
Hands-On Research
Every experiment starts with careful precision
Brainstorming Sessions
Weekly lab meetings where ideas collide and evolve
Microscopy Hours
Peering into the invisible world of plant cells
State-of-the-Art Equipment
Tools that power our discovery engine
Learning by Doing
Students mastering techniques that textbooks can't teach
That Perfect Band!
Nothing beats seeing your expected PCR band at 2 AM
We Celebrate Wins
Paper accepted? Time for cake and chai!
Field Sampling
Collecting samples from experimental plots
A Typical Day in DG Lab
From dawn to dusk, here's what keeps us going
9:00 AM
Morning Prep
Autoclaving media, setting up buffers, and checking overnight cultures. The lab fills with the familiar hum of centrifuges spinning to life.
10:30 AM
Experiment Time
PCR machines clicking, gel electrophoresis running, and the satisfying glow of UV transilluminator revealing our DNA bands. This is where the magic happens.
12:00 PM
Lab Meeting & Lunch
Weekly journal clubs where we dissect papers, debate results over chai, and Dr. Gayen drops those "what if we try..." ideas that spark new directions.
2:00 PM
Deep Work Hours
Confocal microscopy sessions, protein extractions, CRISPR construct cloning, and bioinformatic analyses. Headphones on, focus mode activated.
4:30 PM
Data & Discussion
Analyzing results, plotting graphs, troubleshooting failed experiments (it's science, it happens!), and planning tomorrow's protocol.
6:00 PM
Wind Down
Cleaning up benches, updating lab notebooks, sometimes sneaking in one more PCR run. The dedicated ones are still here at 8 PM — with pizza arriving.
Fun Facts About Us
The lighter side of science at DG Lab
Gel Selfies
Our WhatsApp group has more gel images than actual selfies. A clean band is worth 1000 words.
Chai-Powered Science
Approximately 15 cups of chai are consumed daily. We firmly believe caffeine is an essential co-factor for research.
Plant Parenthood
We take better care of our rice and wheat seedlings than most people take care of their houseplants.
Publication Parties
Every accepted paper calls for a celebration. Samosas and sweets are the official currency of scientific achievement here.
The "One More Run" Club
Famous last words in our lab: "Just one more PCR and I'll go home." Spoiler — it's never just one.
Paper Nerds
Lab meetings often derail into 2-hour deep dives on a single figure from a Nature paper. No regrets.
What We Value
The principles that guide everything we do at DG Lab
Collaboration Over Competition
We share protocols, troubleshoot together, and celebrate each other's wins. Your success is our success.
Curiosity-Driven Research
Questions are always welcome. The best experiments in our lab started with someone asking "but what if...?"
Work-Life Balance
Science is a marathon, not a sprint. We encourage breaks, hobbies, and actually going home on time (mostly).
Mentorship & Growth
Every member gets guidance tailored to their goals — whether it's academia, industry, or figuring out what's next.
